Delhi–NCR Students Gain Wider Access to Global Education Opportunities

New Delhi, January 18, 2026 — Students in the Delhi–NCR region are increasingly benefiting from expanded access to world-class global education without the need to travel overseas, as foreign universities strengthen their presence in the region and Indian institutions deepen international academic collaborations.

In a significant shift in India’s higher-education landscape, several foreign universities have either established campuses or announced plans to do so in Delhi–NCR, making internationally recognised degrees more accessible to Indian students. The University of Southampton inaugurated its full-scale campus in Gurugram in 2025, offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in disciplines such as computer science, business and finance, with provisions for students to spend part of their course at partner campuses abroad.

According to industry and policy reports, Delhi–NCR has emerged as a preferred destination for global university expansion, supported by strong infrastructure, a large talent pool and a favourable regulatory environment shaped by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and updated guidelines from the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Apart from standalone foreign campuses, Indian universities in the region are actively building international partnerships to broaden global learning opportunities. Delhi Technological University (DTU) has signed a five-year academic cooperation agreement with the University of Houston, enabling student exchanges, joint research projects and dual-degree programmes. Delhi University has entered into a memorandum of understanding with the University of Leeds (UK) to promote collaborative research and semester-long exchange programmes, while Shiv Nadar University has partnered with Springer Nature to enhance the global visibility of research and provide greater exposure to student scholars.

These developments are helping meet the growing demand among Indian students for globally relevant education and international career pathways, while significantly reducing the financial and logistical barriers associated with studying abroad. Education experts say the trend is also positioning Delhi–NCR as a strategic hub for transnational education, where local academic strengths are increasingly integrated with international standards and practices.
