NEET UG 2026 Re-Test: NTA Closes Answer Key Challenge Window; Final Results Expected Soon

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially closed the online objection window for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG 2026) provisional answer key. The deadline to challenge the provisional key, along with the required processing fee, concluded on June 28, 2026, at 11:50 PM.

With the challenge window now closed, subject matter experts are compiling the final answer keys. This finalized key will serve as the sole foundation for evaluating the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheets and processing the final ranks for over 22 lakh medical aspirants nationwide.

Key Highlights & High Stakes of the NEET UG 2026 Re-Test

  • The Timeline: The high-stakes re-examination was conducted by the central agency on June 21, 2026, following directions issued to resolve previous evaluation and process discrepancies.

  • Fast-Tracked Evaluation: To prevent further delays to the academic session and subsequent medical counseling, the NTA ran the expert challenge review parallel to the scanning of individual OMR sheets.

  • Tentative Result Date: The final result and the definitive merit lists are expected to be declared tentatively by the second week of July 2026.

Major Updates: Physics Bonus Marks Awarded

Early reviews of the provisional key have already confirmed critical adjustments that will impact overall scores across all test booklet series codes (Codes 50, 60, 70, and 80):

1. Dropped Question (4 Bonus Marks): One full question in the Physics section has been officially dropped by the NTA. As per standard guidelines, every candidate who appeared in the exam will automatically receive 4 bonus marks, regardless of whether they attempted it.

2. Dual Correct Options: For another disputed Physics question, two distinct options have been recognized as correct. Candidates who marked either of these two valid options will be awarded the full 4 marks.

Vital Deadline: Update Bank Details for Fee Refund by June 30

For candidates who raised valid challenges, the NTA charges a processing fee of ₹200 per question. If the panel of subject experts accepts the candidate's objection, this fee will be refunded in full.

To facilitate this, a separate dedicated portal has been launched. All candidates who submitted objections must verify or update their active bank account details on the official website on or before June 30, 2026, to ensure their refund is successfully processed.
