Python Meets Philology: Central Sanskrit University Launches India’s First AICTE-Approved B.Tech in AI & Data Science
In an unprecedented move that bridges ancient linguistic heritage with cutting-edge technical computing, Central Sanskrit University (CSU) has officially entered engineering education.
This marks the first time a Sanskrit university in India has been granted approval by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to run a mainstream technical degree.
The Vision: What Makes This B.Tech Program Unique?
The initiative gained nationwide attention after Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the university's endeavor during his Mann Ki Baat address.
Rather than treating ancient classical languages as museum exhibits, this curriculum positions Sanskrit texts as first-class computational data.
Slicing the Curriculum: Tech vs. Heritage Studies
The four-year undergraduate program blends core engineering requirements with specialized linguistic computing modules:
🖥️ Mainstream Engineering Components
Artificial Intelligence & Deep Learning
Machine Learning & Data Analytics
Python Programming & Cloud Computing
Advanced Statistical Modeling
📜 Language & Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) Components
Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Translation
Computational Linguistics and Speech Recognition
Conversational AI and Knowledge Representation
Optical Character Recognition (OCR) tailored specifically for degraded ancient scripts and historical orthography.
Cross-Disciplinary Applications: Students will actively design engineering projects that apply computational analytics to classical domains like Ayurveda, Yoga, Jyotisha, and Nyaya philosophy.
Admissions Framework & Seat Matrix
The program features a tightly controlled cohort size to maintain research-grade instruction quality.
Total Sanctioned Intake: 66 Seats (60 Regular Seats + 6 Supernumerary Seats).
Admission Routes: Admissions are processed through two distinct pathways via the official registration portal (
):sanskritadm.samarth.edu.in Valid JEE Main 2026 (Paper 1) scores.
A dedicated University Entrance Test (UET) conducted internally for non-JEE general applicants.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must have cleared their 10+2 board examinations with a minimum of 45% marks (40% for reserved categories) in relevant Science or technical streams.
Interestingly, to ensure traditional Sanskrit students have a pathway into high-tech education, candidates from traditional 10+2 Sanskrit streams (such as Prak Shastri, Uttara Madhyama, or Ved Vibhushana) are completely eligible, provided they studied Physics and Mathematics as part of their curriculum.
