NEET UG 2026 Analysis: Balanced Paper with Lengthy Botany Section; 22.79 Lakh Students Await Results

NEW DELHI – Following the conclusion of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) 2026 held yesterday, May 3, early analysis from academic experts and students suggests a balanced paper that was perceived as slightly easier compared to the previous year.

The high-stakes medical entrance exam saw a massive turnout, with approximately 22.79 lakh candidates registered across 551 cities nationwide. As the initial feedback pours in, here is a detailed breakdown of the subject-wise difficulty and exam trends.

Subject-Wise Feedback

Botany: The Time-Consumer

  • Students noted that the Botany section was somewhat lengthy and time-consuming.

  • The questions featured several statement-based and assertion-reasoning types, which required careful reading and slowed down the overall pace for many aspirants.

Physics & Chemistry: Conceptual Depth

  • Both Physics and Chemistry sections focused heavily on conceptual understanding rather than just direct formula application.

  • Physics: While considered moderate, the paper required a strong grasp of core principles to solve numerical problems efficiently.

  • Chemistry: Dominated by NCERT-based questions, particularly in Organic and Inorganic Chemistry, with Physical Chemistry requiring precise calculations.

Zoology: Moderate to Easy

  • The Zoology section was generally well-received, with most students finding it direct and relatively easier to navigate compared to the Botany portion.

Exam Participation and Attendance

The 2026 cycle witnessed one of the highest registration figures in recent years, with over 22.79 lakh aspirants competing for limited seats in MBBS, BDS, and AYUSH courses. The NTA ensured smooth conduct across a vast network of 551 cities, maintaining strict security protocols throughout the session.

Expected Cut-off and Results

Given that the paper was considered slightly easier than last year, experts anticipate a marginal increase in the qualifying cut-offs for various categories.

  • Provisional Answer Key: Expected to be released by the NTA in the last week of May.

  • Result Declaration: The official results are tentatively scheduled for mid-June 2026.

Candidates are advised to keep their admit cards safe and regularly check the official NTA website for the release of the OMR response sheets and the answer key challenge window.
