NEET UG 2026: Education Minister Announces Major Student Relief Measures and Re-Exam Roadmap

By: GPC World News Desk

Date: May 15, 2026

In a landmark press conference held today in New Delhi, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan addressed the concerns of over 2.4 million medical aspirants following the controversy surrounding the initial NEET UG 2026 examination. Adopting a firm "zero-tolerance" stance on paper leaks and malpractices, the Minister unveiled a comprehensive schedule and student-first reforms to restore the sanctity of the medical entrance process.

1. The Official Re-Examination Schedule

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially finalized the date for the re-test. This second opportunity is designed to provide a level playing field for all deserving candidates.

  • Confirmed Exam Date: June 21, 2026 (Sunday)

  • Revised Timing: The examination will now be held from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM.

  • Buffer Time: In a move to reduce student anxiety, the NTA has added an extra 15 minutes to the paper duration.

  • Admit Cards: Fresh hall tickets reflecting the new timings and centers will be available for download by June 14, 2026.

2. Key Reforms for Student Welfare

To ease the logistical and financial burden on families, the Ministry has introduced several critical updates:

  • Choice of Examination City: Candidates are now permitted to re-select their preferred exam city. This ensures that students who have moved or traveled since the original exam can test at their most convenient location.

  • Zero Additional Cost: The Minister confirmed that the initial fees will be refunded, and no fresh fee will be charged for the June 21st re-test.

  • CBI Investigation: To ensure absolute accountability, the government has formally handed over the paper leak probe to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

3. Looking Forward: The Transition to Digital (2027)

A major takeaway from the conference was the government’s long-term plan to modernize the examination system. Minister Pradhan announced that starting in 2027, NEET UG will transition entirely to a Computer-Based Test (CBT) model. This shift aims to eliminate the vulnerabilities associated with physical paper distribution and enhance the overall security of the testing cycle.
