NEET UG 2026: Over 23 Lakh Candidates Appear for Medical Entrance Today; Strict Guidelines in Place

NEW DELHI – The National Testing Agency (NTA) is conducting the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) 2026 today, May 3, 2026. Thousands of examination centres across India and abroad are hosting over 23 lakh aspirants competing for seats in MBBS, BDS, and other undergraduate medical courses.

The three-hour examination commenced strictly at 2:00 PM and is scheduled to conclude at 5:00 PM.

Admit Card and Essential Documents

The NTA released the NEET UG 2026 admit cards on April 26, 2026, through its official portal. Candidates were required to download their hall tickets using their application number and date of birth or password.

On exam day, the following documents are mandatory for entry:

  • Printed Admit Card: A colored A4 printout with a passport-sized photograph affixed.

  • Valid Photo ID: Original government-issued identification such as Aadhaar, PAN card, or Passport.

  • Additional Photographs: Passport-sized and one postcard-sized (4x6 inch) photograph for the attendance sheet and verification.

  • Self-Declaration Form: Candidates must carry the filled-out undertaking printed with the admit card.

Strict Exam Day Protocol

To maintain the integrity of the entrance test, the NTA implemented a multi-layered security system, including Aadhaar-based biometric verification and mandatory frisking.

  • Reporting Time: Entry to centres began at 11:00 AM, with the last entry permitted only until 1:30 PM.

  • Dress Code: Candidates were instructed to wear light, comfortable clothing with short sleeves. Shoes were strictly prohibited, with only low-heeled sandals or slippers permitted.

  • Prohibited Items: Mobile phones, smartwatches, calculators, jewelry, and any form of stationery or communication devices were completely barred from the exam hall.

NTA Dismisses Paper Leak Rumours

Ahead of the exam, the NTA issued a strong advisory dismissing viral social media claims regarding a potential paper leak. The agency clarified that all sensitive materials were delivered under strict security protocols and urged students not to fall for scams or misinformation.

The provisional answer key for NEET UG 2026 is expected to be released later in May, with official results tentatively scheduled for June 2026.
