NEET UG 2026: Final Registration Deadline Ends Tonight; NTA Rules Out Further Extensions

NEW DELHI, March 11, 2026 – The National Testing Agency (NTA) is officially closing the registration window for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2026 today. Following a three-day extension from the original March 8 deadline, the agency has confirmed that no further extensions will be granted, leaving medical aspirants with only a few hours to secure their attempt for the 2026 academic session.

The 11th Hour: Critical Deadlines

As of midday, the NTA portal at neet.nta.nic.in is experiencing high traffic. Candidates must adhere to the following strict cutoff times:

  • Application Submission: The portal will stop accepting new forms at 9:00 PM tonight.

  • Fee Payment: Successfully registered candidates can complete their online fee transactions until 11:50 PM.

  • Registration Count: Sources suggest that the total number of applicants has already crossed the 2.3 million mark, potentially setting a new record for the medical entrance exam.

Why the Deadline was Extended

The initial deadline of March 8 was moved to March 11 following urgent appeals from students and education ministers.

  • Internet Connectivity: Significant requests came from the Kashmir Valley, where students faced difficulty with OTP verifications and document uploads due to localized internet speed restrictions.

  • Technical Glitches: Many applicants reported "session timeouts" and payment failures during the final 48 hours of the original window.

  • Board Exam Overlap: Several state and central board exams are currently ongoing, making it difficult for students to focus on the complex registration process earlier.

Next Steps: Correction Window and Exam Schedule

Once the portal closes tonight, the focus shifts to the correction phase and exam preparation.

  • Correction Window: The NTA is expected to open the application correction facility tomorrow, March 12, through March 15, 2026. During this window, candidates can edit specific fields like category, exam city preference, and academic details. (Note: Primary identifiers like Name, DOB, and Email typically cannot be changed).

  • Admit Cards: Hall tickets are anticipated to be released in the last week of April 2026.

  • Exam Day: NEET UG 2026 will be held on May 3, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 5:20 PM in pen-and-paper (offline) mode across 500+ cities in India and abroad.

Application Fee Structure

CategoryFee (INR)
General₹1,700
General-EWS / OBC-NCL₹1,600
SC / ST / PwBD / Third Gender₹1,000
Outside India₹9,500

Aspirant Advisory: NTA recommends that candidates download and save the Confirmation Page immediately after successful payment. This document is mandatory for the counseling process later this year.
