Kent Syverud has been named the 16th president of the University of Michigan, returning to his alma mater on July 1 after serving as chancellor and president of Syracuse University since 2014. A U-M alumnus, Syverud earned degrees in law and economics and previously served as dean at Vanderbilt University and Washington University in St. Louis. He oversaw major fundraising, campus expansion, and strategic initiatives at Syracuse, bringing decades of legal and higher education leadership to Michigan.
