New Delhi:
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a notification warning students about an institute in Delhi that is offering unrecognised degree programmes in violation of the UGC Act, 1956.
According to the notice, the Institute of Management and Engineering, located at 1810/4, 1st Floor, Kotla Mubarakpur, Delhi, is conducting degree courses without proper approval.
The UGC cautioned students that taking admission in such a “self-styled institution” could jeopardize their academic and professional future.
The notification stated:
“It has come to the notice of the University Grants Commission that the Institute of Management and Engineering, 1810/4, 1st Floor, Kotla Mubarakpur, Delhi, is offering various degree courses/programmes in gross violation of the UGC Act, 1956.”
Referring to Section 22 of the UGC Act, 1956, the Commission reminded that only recognised universities — established by Central, State, or Provincial Acts, or institutions deemed to be universities under Section 3 — are authorised to grant degrees.
The UGC further clarified that the Institute of Management and Engineering is not recognised under Section 2(f) or Section 3 of the Act and hence has no authority to award degrees.
Students are advised to verify the recognition status of any institution before taking admission. The list of recognised universities and approved higher education institutions (HEIs) is available on the official UGC website — www.ugc.gov.in — under the HEIs section.
