Indian Institute of Technology, Madras has launched Department of Medical Sciences and Technology on Thursday, May 11. The newly launched department will offer four-year B.S. program in medical sciences and engineering.

IIT Madras to offer 4-year B.S. program in medical sciences and engineering
Lakshmi Narayanan, Co-Founder, Cognizant, Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, Medical clinicians on the Steering Committee of the Department and other stakeholders were present at the launch event.
As per a press release issued by IIT Madras, the course will offer an interdisciplinary approach to prepare students for designing life-saving medical devices, drug discovery, artificial intelligence in medicine, and fundamental medical research. The department will train physicians to effectively apply technology in their clinical practice and lay the foundation for physician-scientists training in India.
The main aim of this initiative is to equip scientists and engineers with the necessary skills to advance medical research.
The Department will offer the courses which includes- BS in Medical Sciences and Engineering, PhD programme for Doctors, MS by Research for Doctors, MS in Medical Sciences and Engineering and PhD program for Science and Engineering graduates.
